I started writing this after the November 2024 U.S. national elections and am picking it up again in January of 2026. Donald Trump triumphed over Kamala Harris in both the Electoral College votes and the popular vote (@ 51% to Harris’ 47.6%). The Senate also flipped several seats and is now controlled by the Republicans and the House of Representatives followed suit with a Republican majority. Certainly, a somewhat surprising result that many pundits are calling the “resurrection” of Donald Trump, particularly when all the issues surrounding Trump (felony conviction, other legal actions still pending, and a loss in 2020) are taken into account. America holds the Office of the President in high esteem (although polls indicate a general lack of trust in our politicians) and the world looks to America’s President as the leader of the free world.
My intent is to not discuss the election results any further. We experienced a peaceful transition of power in January of 2025 and my hope is that the Trump administration is able to govern peacefully and effectively, according to God’s will.
As much as the world holds the President of the United States up as the world’s premier leader, he or she is just another human being in a long line of human beings that occupy political office and seek to govern well, in the best of circumstances, and govern with a desire for power that leads to harm and subjugation in the worst of circumstances. But there is another world leader that is set to return and finally bring the world eternal peace. We celebrate his birthday on December 25th. In case you haven’t figured out who I am talking about, he’s what we say is “the reason for the Christmas season”. Jesus. He orchestrated the greatest paradigm shift in human history as his death and resurrection powers humanity’s salvation. His mission was clear and he accomplished ALL that he set out to accomplish. And in doing so, eternal life is given to all who believe.1
The Old Testament of the Christian Bible is rife with references to the coming Savior2. Why? Because human history reveals humanity’s complete and total depravity 3and our need for a savior. The law as contained in the Old Testament is prima facie, front line evidence that humans can’t do it on our own. Perfection is required by God 4but is not possible as is evidenced in the lives of all of the great people of the Old Testament. Just read about Abraham, Moses, and King David (to name just a few) and you’ll see great men, engaged directly with God but who could not avoid sin. King David, known as a man after God’s own heart5, stumbled mightily as King of the Israelites. He fell in love with Bathsheba, another man’s wife, and not only slept with her but had her husband who was a General in his army sent to the front line to be killed in battle.
Jesus’ mission was to resolve this dilemma which he did on the cross. Isaiah 9, one of the most-read and quoted chapters in the Old Testament, proclaims Jesus as a “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”6 Written by perhaps God’s greatest prophet, God revealed Jesus to Isaiah over 700 years before Jesus was born. This fact is pointed out by Christian apologists as evidence of not only the existence of God but the divinity of Christ as humanity’s true Messiah. The odds of accurately predicting the birth of another human being, much less Jesus Christ, and describing who that person is and what that person’s impact on the world will be are almost incalculable. The argument is that Jesus was born as predicted 700 years before his life; Therefore, the God of the bible is real. And, therefore, God’s plan to save the world through His son’s death and resurrection is real, and perfect, unlike us.
Isaiah gives us great insight into what we have to look forward to when Jesus returns to earth and establishes his kingdom. Jesus is the standard for great world leadership. Isaiah tells us that Jesus will take over the running of the world and quash the oppressors and wicked tyrants of the world. He is a light that will bring eternal peace and joy, and will remedy the brokenness of this world and rule with justice and righteousness forever. God, through Jesus, will unify mankind and there will be absolutely no limit to the wholeness Christ will bring. Now that is the leader this world needs!
Here’s the conclusion; peace is impossible with human leaders. Peace is coming when Christ returns. Email me at karltucker4@gmail.com with any comments or questions. I promise that I’ll respond.
- See John 3:16 which states: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” I love the less quoted but just as important verse 17 that states: “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” ↩︎
- Known as the Messianic Prophesies, the Book of Isaiah, found in the Old Testament, is an example of books in the Old Testament that speaks to the coming of a Messiah who will save the world. Isaiah contains a famous prophesy about Jesus that is fulfilled by Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection. ↩︎
- Depravity meaning our inability to live our lives without sin. ↩︎
- While it is certainly true that we will not be able to live sinless lives, the Bible does teach us that God requires perfection of us. During his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us to “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” But we know that perfection is unachievable which God, of course, knows as well. While God cannot abide sin, through His son Jesus the price for our sin is paid through his death and resurrection on the cross. Believe this and you are saved to eternal life! ↩︎
- See Samuel 13:14 which contains the Prophet Samuel’s revealing to King Saul, a failed King who disregarded God’s will, that he was going to be replaced by David. David, the shepherd boy who killed the massive Philistine Goliath with a sling shot and rock, was put into power by God. Generations later the ultimate King was born from David’s lineage. His name is Jesus. ↩︎
- See Isaiah 9: 6 – 7 which states: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.” ↩︎
